When is the municipal election?
I voted in the recent Provincial Election. Will I be on the voters' list for the Municipal Election?
Who is eligible to vote in the Municipal Election?
You can vote in East Gwillimbury's 2026 Municipal Election if you are:
- A Canadian citizen; and
- 18 years of age or older; and
- A resident of the Town of East Gwillimbury; or
- A non-resident who is, or whose spouse is, an owner or tenant of land in the Town of East Gwillimbury; and
- Not prohibited from voting by law
When will I receive my voters' information card in the mail?
Once you are on the Municipal Voters’ List, you will receive your Voter Instruction Letter in early October. This will have all the information you need to cast your ballot including your Voting PIN (Personal Identification Number).
What do I do if I don't receive my Voter Information Letter?
Call the Voter Help Line at (289) 580-9774 or visit the Voter Help Centre located at the Civic Centre to obtain your VIL.
In order to be added to the voters’ list or update your information, identification with your name and qualifying address must be provided. Options include:
- Ontario driver’s licence
- Current utility bill
- Current bank or credit card statement
- Current insurance policy
My child is away at school, can they still vote?
If you are a student and consider your “home” to be the place where you live when you are not attending school (that is, you plan on returning there), then you are eligible to vote in both your “home” municipality and in the municipality where you live while attending school.
I have received a Voter Information Letter for someone who doesn't live in my household?
If your household receives a Voter Information Letter for a former resident who is no longer an eligible voter, such as a family member who moved, do not open or forward it. Mark the envelope “Return to Sender” and drop it in a mailbox.
I have received two Voter Information Letters with different spellings of my name or errors?
If you receive multiple Voter Information Letters or notice errors in your information, please contact Election Services at elections@eastgwillimbury.ca or 289-580-9774.
